Amazing Arch

Wednesday, March 29, 2006

My little brother is only a few weeks away from being a fully certified Mason (Bricklayer). During his last course, he finished far enough ahead of the class to design and build this arch.

Wow...I'd definitley hire him.
I'm so incredibly impressed and proud!

the tired

Sunday, March 26, 2006

The tired just doesn't seem to want to leave me alone. There just seems to be so much going on and so much to do between work and life that it feels like so long since I have felt peaceful, calm and satisfied.

J and I are both struggling with our work situations. Personally, I just aspire to more than I have at my current job and am strongly starting to question whether there is any space here for my career to grow. This of course sporadically brings about all sorts of worry, questions and anxiety about the future.

Although I am confident it will all work out, sometimes the wait is the worst part.

Additionally, over the past month J and I have taken turns being sick. First I came down with a fairly mild cold - or perhaps it was a flu as is was mostly in the stomach. Once that passed, J came down with a completely different cold that included a cough and congestion. Of course I eventually also got this second cold (although milder than J), but on the whole being sick never helps one feel revived and refreshed does it?!

In an effort to relax, I recently drew myself a hot bath and added a homemade (by me) bath bomb filled with relaxing lavender and lit a single candle at the edge of the tub; a personal recipe for relaxation. As the water warmed my body, I felt some of the tension drift from my body, but unfortunately boredom hit me before I was able to lose myself fully.

As I disenheartendly, toweled off I decided to pull out my djembe and try and find some musical solace. Without stopping to dress I pulled my drum off the shelf and began to play my little heart out. Half an hour later, I had found some of the joy I had been looking for.

I guess sometimes our tranquility isn't necessarily in the same place we found it last.

Photography

Monday, March 20, 2006

As you may know I have been interested in photography for some time. Working in the photolab really sparked my interest. I saw so many pictures--good and bad--that I was able to begin to learn what sort of pictures interested me and what sort of pictures just never seemed to turn out. I couldn't provide any specifics to back this up, but I take pictures of what I like and on occasion am rewarded.

My dearest Jason bought me a beautiful Nikon F55 camera for Christmas in 2004 and over the months I have slowly been experimenting and learning about my camera. And now finally I have gotten around to spending the time to scan in my favourites for ease of sharing.

To see what I scanned in head over to

.

Of course, I can't help but post a few here as well.
Tell me what you think.

recap of nothing

Wednesday, March 15, 2006

So I have two weekends worth of stuff to mention, but only about 5 minutes before I have to run to work...But here's a start.

Last weekend we decided that we just needed to escape and get away from all the hum-drum of the working life, so we headed off to Harrison for two days and one evening. Since it was a Monday night in March it was nothing short of dull out there, but that was a-ok. We brought the movie "walk the line" with us (which was better than I expected), ate pizza in our hotel room and generally just chilled.

The drive home seemed ridiculously long, what with all the accidents and etc we encountered, but I guess that's the way it goes.

This weekend we continued the trend of doing absolutely nothing...Which was wonderful!

J and I seriously did a lot of nothing; a few errands like going to the pet store and dropping by the mall, but other than that we just sat around, relaxed, watched TV, applied for a few jobs and otherwise just tried to catch up on sleep.

Unfortunately J came down with a bit of a cold on Friday night so he definitely needed the rest, and I feel like life still hasn't slowed down since mussel project, so the relaxation was much needed. Although, I still find myself tired this morning...

Rustle the Leaf

Sunday, March 05, 2006

I love to read newspaper comics, especially the full colour sunday comics...a few giggles, a few laughs - I'm easily satisfied.

Much to my excitement I just discovered a weekly eco-comic at http://www.rustletheleaf.com. Can you imagine? Giggles and Environmental Issues in a single comic strip - sounds heavenly!

I have added a link to the sidebar, which should take you directly to the most recent comic strip.

Here's this weeks comic...hope you like it!

Easy Quiche Lorraine

Saturday, March 04, 2006

This crustless quiche is one of my favourite meals to eat, whether for an easy dinner or a yummy brunch. It is sure to please and requires very little effort to prepare. Mmmm, quiche!

Ingredients:

3 eggs
3/4 cup bisquick baking mix
1 1/3 cup milk
250g ham or bacon (diced)
1 small onion (diced)
1 1/2 cup grated Swiss cheese

Instructions:

*Preheat oven to 400 C and butter/spray your pan

*Mix ham, cheese, onion and bisquick

*Place ham & cheese mixture into your pan

*Mix eggs & milk-Beat well

*Pour milk mixture over the ham mixture

*Bake for 30-40 minutes until the top is golden and the quiche feels
relatively solid

Alternative suggestions:
I love to make a veggie quiche that uses: onion, mushroom, spinach (should be washed, dried & chopped) & cheese for the filling. Sometimes I also add a little feta cheese, but be careful if you add too many moist fillings your quiche won't rise properly in the middle (although it will still taste yummy!).

*I usually use a round corning ware dish to make the quiche, but when I didn't have one a 9x9 cake pan also did the job, so don't worry if you don't have a quiche pan, just try what you have available.
